Supporting Interoperation of GIS Objects
نویسندگان
چکیده
Today, a promising approach to large-scale interoperability in geographic information systems (GIS) is a GIS implemented via a distributed object management system (DOMS) (e.g. CORBA, Java, OLE/COM) based on a standardized spatial object model (e.g. OGIS [1]). Geographic entities are available as locationand platform-independent objects, and are accessible via their interface, i.e. their attributes and a set of operations. Using a DOMS, much of the hardware, network and communication heterogeneity between interoperating GIS objects on different platforms and machines is handled automatically by the DOMS software, and is of no concern to the user. Also, via the notion of strongly typed object interfaces, type checking is also automatically performed at compile time to ensure that correct argument types are passed between interoperating GIS objects.

A Component-Based 3D Geographic Simulation Framework and its Integration with a Legacy GIS
There is an increasing demand for 3D geographic simulation systems. Most systems currently available are closed and based on fixed architectures. Some systems allow us to develop and customize a 3D geographic simulation system, but this usually requires the writing of extensive program code. Especially in 3D geodisaster simulations, for example, we need to dynamically integrate 2D legacy GIS wi...

This paper shows a distributed simulation framework for tactical training in networked virtual environment. The existing military training simulation systems are mostly full simulated systems operating on single platform. They are to train individual’s operation skill, but don’t support team level tactical training. In order to train team level combat and command skill in dynamic battlefield, t...

The interoperation of spatial information is an effective way for sharing spatial information, in order to complete any exchanges and integrations of spatial information within and between application systems and organizations. This paper is to apply the metadata interoperability-related research outputs, namely Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), in the field o...
متن کاملMaking classrooms socio-technical environments for supporting collaborative learning: the role of personal devices and boundary objects
The emergence of low-price computers has made possible numerous new ways of classroom learning. The personal devices that are applied in a manner without interoperation with appropriate peripherals may interfere with face-to-face collaboration since the personal devices were design for personal usages. To improve the collaboration that takes place in small face-to-face groups in repeated episod...
متن کاملCoordinating Distributed Objects with Declarative Interfaces
object-oriented, distributed, enterprise-wide This paper presents an architecture that supports coordination among loosely coupled distributed objects. The architecture has two components: objects that provide a declarative specification of their interface, and system programs that reason with these specifications to provide sophisticated interoperation services. Traditional object-oriented int...
